CENTRAL TEXAS WORLD WARS EDUCATION CENTER
Hello my name is Dave De Morrow. For the past 25 years I have been involved in living history, military history, museums, and military vehicle collecting and restoration. I am also a veteran of 3 wars, many deployments, and numerous gunneries with the Vulcan and Bradley weapon systems. Over the past 21 years of active service I have served with units such as the 101 ABN, 1st and 2nd Armored Divisions, 32 AADCOM, 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 8th Ids, 11th CAV RGT, and the 1st CAV Div.
In my travels I have seen some really outstanding museums such as the D-Day museum in New Orleans, Sinsine museum in Germany, the 1918 museum in Poznieres France, and many more. I have learned that it takes 4 things for a truly amazing and dynamic museum to take shape, financing, collection, members, and heart. Most museums only have one or two of the above listed requirements, this is a shame due to the fact that in the US, history and military history is largely forgotten. With the help of volunteers and my loving wife (Sharon) and little girl (Katie) I intend on doing my little part to help change this.
My intent is to transform my own and other closet collections into a great display that people would be proud to bring their kids to. This museum would also have strong ties to all the living history groups, CAF, MVPA, and other clubs. I intend on sponsoring living history events for the public, private events for the clubs, and militaria shows for collectors and vendors.
Planned exhibits
Vehicles, Jeeps, trucks, armored vehicles, artillery.
First world war trench line
Light horse (Australian WWI) display
Second world war European walking tour
1960s NATO / Warsaw Pact exhibit (Berlin wall)
1988 fall of the Berlin wall and the end of the cold war
Desert storm
Operation Iraqi freedom
The first phase of the plan will be to purchase a plot of land near Belton or Temple Texas (2006). The 2nd phase will be to provide the building, and phase 3 will be to develop the land into a world-class living history facility (2008). In time I intend to transfer the event and living history center into a 501c entity to ensure its continued success.
Thanks for your time, and I hope to see you in the future at the world wars learning center. And for you that have or are thinking about helping make this project a reality I personally want to thank you from the bottom of my heart.
